Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match for his stunning show with the bat in the 65th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Thursday, May 18.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The RCB bowlers managed to clean up the top-3 batters of the SRH for low scores, but they couldn’t get past the man-in-red-hot form Heinrich Klaasen.

Heinrich Klaasen was the lone warrior for his side and he played a flamboyant innings of 104 runs, with 8 fours and 6 sixes. His batting masterclass helped Sunrisers Hyderabad post 186/5 on the board.
Chasing the target, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli came out all guns blazing and they made a mockery of the SRH bowlers. They added outstanding 172 runs in 108 balls that helped RCB win the match by 8 wickets.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Virat Kohli, who won the Player of the Match award for his sensational 100-run knock, said that hitting a ton in a crucial game was quite special. He said:
“Quite special considering the magnitude of the game. Thought SRH got a very good score. Ball was gripping as well. Faf’s been on a different level. I’ve had a quiet couple of games. The way I was hitting in the nets wasn’t transitioning into the middle.”

Virat Kohli said that he never looks at his past records against any team whether they are strong or weak. Virat Kohli added that he is not someone who plays many fancy shots and his goal is to stay true to his technique as after the IPL there will be Test cricket.
“Never look at past records (not great numbers against SRH). I put myself under so much stress already. I don’t care what anyone says on the outside. I’ve never been a guy who plays so many fancy shots. It’s Test cricket (coming up) after the IPL. have to stay true to my technique,” Virat Kohli said.
Talking about the crowd in Hyderabad, Virat Kohli said that he felt like he was playing a home game as the spectators were cheering for his side.
“I think it’s the tattoos (partnership with Faf). It’s been a beautiful transition for us coming together for RCB at the top and making an impact. Crowd here was amazing today as well. Told Faf as well. Just felt like it was a home game for us. They were cheering for us, taking my name as well. I feel you can’t create this. I haven’t forced anyone to support me. It’s an amazing position to be in that you can provide happiness to so many people,” Virat Kohli said.
