Royal Challengers Bangalore remain on course to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs after registering a thumping 8-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their penultimate league fixture at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Captain Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli continued their red-hot partnership this season and once again delivered for the team in a crunch situation. SRH threatened to spoil RCB’s party after a sensational 49-ball century from Heinrich Klaasen helped them post a big total of 186 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs.

However, du Plessis and Kohli came up with stunning knocks to power their team to a stunning and much-needed win. Kohli led the charge with the bat, scoring a sublime century in the IPL after 4 years. The duo added 172 runs for the first wicket before Kohli departed after scoring exactly 100 runs. Du Plessis, on the other hand, scored 71 as RCB crossed the finishing line with 4 balls remaining.

The win means Royal Challengers Bangalore can finish the season with a maximum of 16 points. The huge win has not only kept alive their chances of finishing the league stage with 8 wins but has also further boosted their net run rate.

The three-time IPL runner-up boosted their net run rate from -0.345 to +0.166 after thrashing Rajasthan Royals by 112 runs last week. And the latest win has taken their net run rate to +0.180. RCB have also moved up to the 4th spot in the points table.

With such a solid net run rate, the Bengaluru-based outfit are all but assured of a playoff spot if they manage to beat reigning champions Gujarat Titans in their final league fixture.

But in case, they fail to win their last league game, they will have to depend on other results. For that to happen, they first need Mumbai Indians to lose their last league game too so that the Rohit Sharma-led side does not finish on 16 points. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals or Punjab Kings can finish on 14 points too. In that case, the net run rate will decide the playoff fate.
