Former cricketer Robin Uthappa stated that Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill has the potential to become the next big thing in Indian cricket, like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Robin Uthappa said that Shubman Gill has been going through an exceptional form across the formats at the moment.

Shubman Gill has been going through a brilliant phase of his career for the past 12 months. The right-handed batter scored hundreds in international cricket in all three formats. He smashed an ODI double hundred against New Zealand at home. Recently, he scored his maiden IPL century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He Is A Phenomenal Player – Robin Uthappa

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Robin Uthappa praised Shubman Gill and described him as a phenomenal player. Uthappa believes that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things in Indian cricket.

“I definitely see him having the potential of becoming someone as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar,” Robin Uthappa said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“I certainly think he has got the stuff. He is a phenomenal player who is in exceptional form and is playing some exceptional cricket at the moment. I feel and believe personally that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things of Indian cricket,” he added.

They Will Continue With The Experienced Players – Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa believes the Indian team will stick with experienced players for the ODI World Cup 2023, adding that the team management might give chances to the youngsters after the mega tournament.

“From my experience with the Indian team, I feel they will continue with the experienced players because making wholesale changes this close to the World Cup is not wise. Having said that, I feel post the World Cup we might see wholesale changes,” he further added.

“Yes, there are a few injury concerns which needs to be addressed. We are already missing Bumrah and I hope he gets fit before the World Cup. Then you have KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out and these are areas of concern I feel. I hope we put out a fit team and give ourselves the best chance to win the World Cup,” he concluded.

The Indian national cricket team has been plagued by injuries to their senior players in recent times. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah have been ruled out of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia at The Oval on June 7.
