PBKS vs RR: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill Have All The Makings And Stuff Of Being Next Superstars Of Indian Cricket – Robin Uthappa
Former India National Cricket Team player Robin Uthappa has claimed that the 21-year-old Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and the 23-year-old Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill have “all the makings and stuff” of becoming the next superstars of Indian cricket.
Gill and Jaiswal have been the top performer for their respective sides in the batting department in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Shubman Gill is at the No.2 spot in the orange cap standings while Yashasvi Jaiswal occupies the No.3 position.

The right-handed batter Gill has scored 576 in 13 matches at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 146.19, including 1 century and 4 half-centuries. The left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, has smashed 575 runs in 13 matches at an average of 47.92 and a strike rate of 166.18, including 1 century and 4 half-centuries.
During an interview with CricketNext.com Robin Uthappa was asked when will be the right time to include Yashasvi Jaiswal in the India National Cricket Team. The 37-year-old responded that had he been in the power, he would have straightaway included the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener in the Indian team.

“Well, if it were up to me, I’d chuck him in now. I think he is phenomenal. I think he’s proven his credentials, and I think he is the next superstar of Indian cricket. Him, Shubman Gill, these blokes have all the makings and stuff of being the next superstars of Indian cricket. And I think we need to find a space for someone like Yashasvi, simply because I think he’s not done it yet and he’s just beginning,” he said.

Uthappa further lauded Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying that he will be a “record-maker” and will “reach massive heights” in international cricket.
“I think he will be a record-maker even at the international level. And I think he’ll be one to watch out for the next 5, 7, 10, 15 years. I don’t know as long as he wants to play. As long as he keeps his head on his shoulders and remains humble and stays true to his roots, I’m certain he will reach massive heights in Indian and international cricket,” he added.
Talking further about the realistic scenario of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s call-up to the Indian team, Uthappa said that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener alongside Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh will participate in a lot of India A tours before being included in Indian team’s scheme of things post ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
“But if you look at it realistically, you’d have to say that post the One Day World Cup is when you’ll see him. And I have come to understand that there are a lot of India A tours in the next year or so. And I think you will see him and Rinku being a big part of all of that and then make the graduation into international cricket because I think that’s an important step as well before you graduate into international cricket,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last IPL 2023 league stage fixture on May 19 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
