Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra came down heavily on Liam Livingston after the latter’s dismissal against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, in Dharamsala. The Kings lost their last game to Rajasthan Royals and in the process were knocked out of the season. The Royals are still alive in the playoff race after the win.

Chasing 188 to win Rajasthan Royals won by four wickets despite being in a tricky [position in the chase at 137/4 after the fall of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket in the 15th over. Shimron Hetmyer then played a brilliant innings scoring 46 off 28 balls. The match was finally finished by Impact Player Dhruv Jurel who hit a six-needing 9 off the final over.

The Punjab Kings top order faltered again in the big game. Shikhar Dhawan (17), Prabhsinran Singh (2), Atharva Taide (19), and Liam Livingstone (9) were dismissed cheaply. Livingstone’s dismissal especially irked Aakash Chopra.

He headed into this game after a brilliant 94 against Delhi Capitals in the failed run-chase in the previous game. He needed to replicate his form for his team but this time he came second. He was dismissed by Navdeep Saini while trying to play a hoick trying to chase down 188 to win the game. His wicket was a big turning point in the chase for the hosts.

While reviewing the match on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra criticized Livingstone for his shot selection. He said that had an Indian batter played that shot he would have coped with a lot of criticism.

“The shot Liam Livingstone played and then walked away laughing and didn’t come out to field, if an Indian batter had done that, we would have talked about his attitude. It slightly defines how your season has been.”

He also shared his thoughts on Punjab’s overall campaign and the form of their batters.

“Shikhar Dhawan’s start was very good but after that he has gone down. Jitesh Sharma did well. Shahrukh Khan also did well. He scored runs when you gave him the chance to face more deliveries this time. He wasn’t scoring when you weren’t doing that. Once again a question is there.”

Shimron Hetmyer Is My MVP: Aakash Chopra

He ended by picking Shimron Hetmyer as the MVP of the match for his match-winning contribution of 44 from 28 balls.

“Who is the most valuable player? I will again go with Shimron Hetmyer. I am going with everyone’s choice. I could have talked about Navdeep Saini as well – he picked up three crucial wickets, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fifty or Jitesh Sharma’s runs.”

The Royals now need RCB to lose their game against GT to stand a chance of making the playoffs.
