Heinrich Klaasen demonstrated his batting talent by slamming his first century in the Indian Premier League during Thursday’s enthralling match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Following David Warner’s 43-ball blitz against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017, Klaasen’s century, which took just 49 balls to complete, was the second-fastest century for SRH. Throughout the competition, the South African cricketer has displayed exceptional form, consistently providing the SRH with essential runs.

Heinrich Klaasen stepped up to the plate in a critical match for RCB after openers Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi were dismissed early. The departure of captain Aiden Markram for 18 off 20 balls added to the strain on SRH. On the other hand, Klaasen remained unfazed, pitching a fantastic inning and leading his side from the front.

“Pretty special feeling, fantastic crowd, glad I got it at home—Wicket’s slower than it has been in the season so far. I’m trying to keep my head and hands dead still, sometimes I search for the ball with my hands and miss it. I’d love to say we are above par but they’ve got a great lineup. We need to get the big wickets upfront and we’ll be through,” Heinrich Klaasen told the broadcaster in the mid-innings interview.

Heinrich Klaasen has emerged as the SRH’s top batter:

Heinrich Klaasen has been their top batter despite SRH having a dismal season that saw them eliminated from the playoff competition. As one of just two SRH batters to reach a century in the 2023 season, he joined Harry Brook in that distinction. While Klaasen has regularly impressed, Brook’s performances have been hit or miss, further confirming his status as an important member of the team.

Heinrich Klaasen’s IPL career began in 2018 when he participated in just four games and scored a meagre 57 runs. He only appeared in three matches in 2019. However, Klaasen had a stunning turnaround in 2023, scoring over 350 runs while maintaining a high strike rate.
