Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have faced a major blow even before the start of their maiden IPL campaign as their England star Mark Wood has been ruled out of the upcoming tournament.

Wood suffered an elbow injury during the recently-concluded Test series against the West Indies.

Looking for Wood’s replacement, LSG approached Taskin Ahmed, who is currently representing Bangladesh in the ODI leg against South Africa.

Taskin would have made his first appearance in the IPL this year, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) denied him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

According to a report by Bangladesh website Kaler Kantha, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir called a BCB official last week and proposed an IPL contract for Taskin. But there was a condition that the 26-year-old paceman won’t be allowed to feature in the upcoming two-match Test series against the Proteas if he signs an IPL contract for the 2022 edition.

Responding to Gambhir’s proposal, the BCB official said that Taskin would not receive a NOC, considering the number of international fixtures coming up.

“Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against India, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus said in an official statement.

“We have spoken with Taskin and he has understood the whole situation. He informed the franchise that he is not playing the IPL and will be available for the South Africa tour and later will return back home,” he added.
