Introduction: IPL 2024 Injured Players, Replacements, New Team All Updates

The biggest cricket extravaganza is all ready to start. IPL 2024 will be inaugurated on 22nd March 2024. However, before that, a huge turmoil is going on. The IPL teams are losing a lot of players due to injury or due to some other reasons. The teams are working hard to get the replacement players. In this blog, we will inform you all the latest updates of IPL 2024 regarding this. Read this blog, to know everything about IPL 2024 & stay tuned with sprintersgames. in to stay updated.

Delhi Capitals is currently dealing with two back-to-back losses. After England batter Harry Brook’s withdrawal, they have also lost Lungi Ngidi who has been ruled out from the entire season due to an injury.

Lungi Ngidi was one of the most trusted shoulders of DC. He has 25 wickets from the previous 14 IPL matches. However, he will be unavailable throughout this IPL edition due to his back injury which he suffered in SA 20.  DC has named Australia all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as the South African’s replacement.

Fraser-McGurk has played 2 ODIs for Australia and DC bagged him for 50 lakhs only. Fraser-McGurk is 21 years old & he is known for his aggressive batting style. He showed his batting skills in the last Australia vs. West Indies match. He smashed 41 off 18 deliveries. This helped Australia chase down a target of 87 inside seven overs. Famous Australian legend Ricky Ponting has high hopes for this young talent.

“…we’ve seen with other players in the past, even like a Shahid Afridi or something like that, that came on the stage as an ultra-talented ball-striking 17-year-old that can bowl leg-spin and before you know it, he’s probably played Test matches,” Ponting had said.

“I was on record at the start of the summer saying I think he’s someone that can be well and truly fast-tracked through the Australian system. Because the natural talent that he’s got reminds me a bit of David Warner’s introduction to Australian cricket. When we saw (Warner) at the start, I think everyone doubted whether he was going to be good enough to play Test cricket technically. When you’ve got that sort of talent you need to be exposed to cricket at the highest level to work it out. And I think Jake can do that yet. I’m backing one day to play Test cricket,” he added.

On the other hand, DC also lost Harry Brook. However, it is not about injury. Harry Brook is not playing in IPL 2024 due to personal reasons.

“I was so excited to be picked by Delhi Capitals and was so looking forward to joining up with everyone,” Brook said in a statement on Instagram.

“Whilst I don’t think I should need to share my reasons behind this decision, I know there will be many asking why. So I do want to share this. I lost my grandmother last month – she was a rock to me and I spent a huge amount of my childhood in her home; my attitude to life and love for cricket was shaped by her and my late grandfather.

“When at home, there would hardly be a day go by that didn’t include seeing her. It makes me so happy that she was able to see me play cricket for England. I’m proud that she could collect some of the awards I have won over the last couple of years when I couldn’t be there and I know she enjoyed doing that.”

According to sports experts, many players will be able to replace Harry successfully. A few names are- Michael Bracewell, Josh Inglis, Sarfaraz Khan, Finn Allen, Rassie Van Der Dussen, etc.

Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023, is one of the few names, who will miss this season of this cricket extravaganza. Shami is still recovering from his ankle injury and there is no hope for him. “The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024,” the BCCI statement read.

Back in the 2023 season, Gujarat Titans’ Mohammed Shami won the Purple Cap with 28 wickets in 17 matches. Well, Shami is not just an IPL performer at all. He played 18 matches in the last World Cup and took 55 wickets at an average of 13.52 and a strike rate of 15.81, with the best figures of 7/57.

Prasidh Krishna will also miss the IPL 2024 due to injury. “The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the NCA soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming IPL 2024,” the BCCI said.

For this year, his replacement has not been named yet.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Jason Roy & Gus Atkinson are going to be unavailable for KKR.

Gus Atkinson will be unavailable because the English and Wales Cricket Board wanted to manage his workload. On the other hand, Jason Roy will be unavailable for personal reasons.

However, according to the last update, Shreyas will not miss any match & he is doing fine right now. “Shreyas is scheduled to join the KKR camp on Friday. He is unlikely to miss games,” a source was quoted as saying by RevSportz.

Gujarat Giants: Md. Shami will be unavailable for GG due to injury. Mathew Wade will be unavailable for GG for the first two matches (March 25 and 27) and after that, he will join the team.

Final words: IPL 2024 Injured Players Replacements

The only question is whether it is ethical to withdraw the names at the eleventh hour. We can understand the issues such as injury or workload, however, revoking names for personal reasons can be questioned on ethical grounds. Keep your eyes on sprintersgames.in to get all the sports news.
