Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) introduce two new rules for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Aakash Chopra believes that the bonus point rule is useful for teams as the Net Run Rate is difficult to understand.
The BCCI introduced the two rules to the IPL before the start of the ongoing tournament. The board introduced the “Impact Player’ rule, which helped the teams add more depth to their batting line. According to the other new rule, players can review the on-field umpire’s decision on wide balls as well.

Aakash Chopra took to Twitter to propose the new rules for the 17th edition of the cash-rich league. The former Indian opener stated that a bonus point should be awarded to the team if they win the match by a huge margin.
“There are two changes that I’d propose for next season’s IPL,”Aakash Chopra tweeted.
“1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better. And also, keeps the interest alive for longer,” he added.

The cricketer-turned-commentator further stated that the final league matches of the tournament should be held at the same time, as it gives an advantage to some teams.
“2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today’s results. Thoughts welcome,” he concluded.
The IPL 2023 is in its most thrilling phase, with four league matches left in the tournament so far. The Gujarat Titans (GT) are the only team to qualify for the knockout stages, with six teams contending for the other three spots. The Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were eliminated.
Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians will be hoping to finish in the top 4 in the 10-team points table. The tournament group stage match will end on Sunday with RCB taking on defending champion GT in the final league match of the IPL 2023.
