Wriddhiman Saha’s unbeaten 67 and bowlers’ top-class effort powered Gujarat Titans (GT) to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mumbai on Sunday. With this victory, the Hardik Pandya-led side has secured a top-two finish in the team standings, providing them with two opportunities to reach the IPL 2022 final.

Asked to bowl first, GT seamers and spinners together put up a clinical show to restrict CSK to a below-par total of 133-5 despite a fine half-century from Ruturaj Gaikwad.

In reply, opening batter Saha hit eight fours and a six during his 57-ball knock, anchoring the chase to get Gujarat over the finish line in 19.1 overs.

Brief scores: Chennai Supers Kings 133-5 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 53; Mohammed Shami 2/19) lost to Gujarat Titans 137-3 in 19.1 overs (Wriddhiman Saha 67 not out) by seven wickets.

Matheesha Pathirana gets his maiden IPL wicket in the first ball of his IPL career.

Matheesha Pathirana might have gone for a few runs after that wicket, but he can take heart from history. Another pace bowler, young and with an unorthodox action, began his IPL career with 1 for 12 in his first over, way back in 2013. His name was Jasprit Bumrah. #CSKvGT
