Who is Mayank Yadav?

Among the pacers owned by LSG is Mayank Yadav. Before the 2022 IPL season, Mayank Yadav was acquired by LSG for Rs 20 lakh; yet, he was inactive for the whole 2022 season. He sustained numerous injuries, making it impossible for LSG to launch him. The wait was finally over, when on Saturday against Punjab Kings, he made his debut for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

What is the noise about?

This 21-year-old Delhi-based pacer made his debut during the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow on Saturday, Mayank maintained a speed of 155.8 kmph which left Shikhar Dhawan in a spot of bother.

Why is Mayank so special?

The best part is the bowling of Mayank reminds us of Shoaib Akhtar. Not the action or the batter’s reaction, but just the way the ball kept rising after it went past the stumps.

 What did he do?

In the end, the 21-year-old claimed three significant wickets to help the Lucknow Super Giants win their first IPL 2024 match. Yes, at 155 to 156 km/h, he claimed three wickets for 27 runs.

Let’s focus on the statement of Mayank’s coach:

The name of the coach of this Delhi-based talent is Devender Sharma. After his performance, the media had a chat with Sharma and asked about Mayank.

Sharma informed the media that Mayank called him right after his debut match. Sir, aaj na mera debut ho gaya. (Sir, today I got my debut)”.

“He spoke as if nothing happened. He just wanted to listen wanted to listen to what I had to say,” Sharma shared to a famous news portal in his interview.

Well, during this interview Sharma also informed that Mayank was about to get into the test Team of India during the last Test series against England. However, he missed the chance due to an injury.

Speaking to RevSportz, Devender stated, “He was very sad, nearly broken. Who would want to give away the chance to impress the chief selector and play for India? I pray to god that he keeps rising and stays fit. He is a very good and strongly built kid. He has an athletic body. He is very hard-working and has the ability to serve India for long. He has a good head and that is what is most important,”

Where did Mayank come from?

Mayank Yadav hails from a very humble origin. His father solely provided for them by operating a small commodities shop in Delhi. His coach has also disclosed that wearing his old sneakers caused him to suffer a hamstring issue. Yadav has been playing for Delhi and with the Lucknow team for three seasons, although he has yet to sign a shoe contract.

Life took a sudden favourable turn for the young bowler when during his Delhi debut at Mohali, Vijay Dahiya too happened to be there as Uttar Pradesh coach. “We were having joint net session. Suddenly, I noticed him in the adjacent nets and immediately called up Gautam Gambhir” Dhahiya shared in an interview. It is important to mention that Dhahiya & Gambhir both were connected to LSG at that time.

“We decided to invest in him. We were not going to play him in the first season because he wasn’t ready mentally and physically. He didn’t have miles in his legs since he didn’t play junior cricket at the state level. But he was an important investment for us. Nobody knew about him but we picked him at the auction,” Dahiya shared in that interview.

Do you guys know, what is the best part? The best part is that Mayank has been on the radar of the Indian selectors and senior players since the Deodhar Trophy earlier this season. Senior skipper like KL Rahul has faith in him. He was called in to bowl to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rahul himself before the last Test series in South Africa.

We are surprised at how he fought against his luck. Yes, you heard it right. Mayank has fought against his luck. According to the LSG coach, he was malnourished and underfed when he came to LSG.

Even after the injury, LSG didn’t release him. They took the responsibility of Mayank and as the LSG has a great facility of treatment & medicine in Mumbai; they used those facilities for Mayank. Well, we must admit, the LSG management has helped Team India in getting a talent and we all are thankful for that.

Let’s focus on his real-time debut:

He made his actual debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021. On his tournament debut, he bowled a maiden in the 49th over to help Delhi defend 12 off the last 12 balls against Haryana.

There are many more franchises in the race:

Although it is a fact that LSG has found him. However, sources have confirmed that  Rishabh Pant and Sourav Ganguly wanted Mayank to join Delhi Capitals. He also added that Gujarat Titans Ashish Nehra was also interested in the pacer.

Final words: rise of Mayank Yadav

We must admit that IPL has a lot of significant contributions to Indian cricket and finding talents like Mayank is one of them. We believe that there are many more talents like Mayank and BCCI need to get them. We hope that we will see Mayank in Team India soon.
