The history of team Afghanistan:
Well, Afghanistan is a newbie in the cricket arena. The Afghanistan Cricket Federation was elected as an affiliate member of the ICC in 2008. They got their Associate membership in 2014. They played their first ICC World Cup in the year 2015 which was hosted in Australia and New Zealand.
In this short period of time, team Afghanistan got only 3 chances to play against India over 50 formats. This is their second meeting in the ODI World Cup.
The history of Team India:
India started their cricket journey in the British period. The British brought cricket to India back in the 1700s. India has bagged this cup for two times already. In the year 1983 India won this title for the first time. Kapil Dev was the captain and India won the second cup in the year 2011 during the captaincy of MS Dhoni. In 2011, India became the first country to win the Cricket World Cup on home soil. On this topic, it is important to mention that, India has become the runners-up at the 2003 Cricket World Cup and stood in semifinals for the four times (1987, 1996, 2015, 2019).
In the last World Cup which was held in the year 2019, India played one match against Afghanistan. In that game, India defeated Afghanistan by 11 runs. However, we have to admit that the game was highly competitive, which saw India reduced to 224/8 in 50 overs. As a newbie, it is a big deal to give a tough fight to such a giant & experienced team.
India vs. Afghanistan ODI head-to-head
Team Afghanistan has excellent talents such as Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Zadran, Naveen Ul Haq, Rashid Khan etc. We must say that this little “kiddo” has crossed a long way to give a tough fight to Team India and Team India should not underestimate the power of hard work.
As cricket fanatics, we love to watch healthy fights and we love to praise real talents. However, we are also praying and guessing that Team India will the match & the cup. Do not forget to stay tuned with sprintergames.in & sprinters.news to get all the sports updates on time.
