DC vs CSK: Shane Watson Criticizes The Kotla Wicket For Exposing DC Batting, And The DDCA Responds
Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson has ripped into the pitch curators of the DDCA, saying that the pitch was partly to blame for their poor performance this season.
This comes amid complaints by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana that the pitch at their home ground of Eden Gardens was not conducive to their team’s strengths.

“The pitches here in Delhi haven’t been great, to be totally honest, They probably are great if you’ve got a lot of Indian top-order batters. Then that wicket will suit that team. But that’s not the make-up of our squad” Shane Watson told reporters ahead of DC’s final game of the tournament against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.

Shane Watson cited Delhi’s final match at Dharamsala versus Punjab Kings, where they scored 213/2, their highest total of the year. The former Australia all-rounder claimed that the Kotla’s pitches did not complement the host team’s advantages.

“We’ve got Prithvi Shaw with the overseas players (at the top). That’s our strength. But unfortunately, when we come to Delhi, due to the amount of cricket that’s been played on this wicket block, it’s very dry. There’s not much grass, if any. Which, unfortunately, exposes the set-up of our batting in particular” Shane Watson added.

Shane Watson slams the DDCA for ‘exposing DC’s batting,’ and the DDCA responds:
A DDCA representative, however, claimed to the Indian Express that they had been instructed not to pay attention to the franchise’s requests regarding the pitch and that the three-year gap between IPL games at the Kotla was the cause of DC’s inability to adapt to the circumstances.
“We’ve been given clear instructions not to listen to the franchise. (The absence of grass) is owing to the heat that has increased,” the official told The Indian Express.
“The wicket was tougher in the 2019 season. If you look at the average scores from that year, they were somewhere around 135-140” DDCA added.
